Preparing your application documents: a checklist
The documents most universities ask for, and how to get them ready without last-minute stress.
Missing or unclear documents are one of the most common causes of delay. Start early and keep everything organised.
Commonly requested documents
- Valid passport (check the expiry date against your full study period)
- Academic transcripts and certificates, with certified translations if not in English
- Evidence of English language ability where required (for example an accepted test, or a recognised exemption)
- Personal statement or statement of purpose
- Academic or professional references
- CV, for postgraduate and professional programmes
- Portfolio, for creative subjects
Make them easy to read
Scan documents in colour, in good light, as clear PDF files. Name files simply, for example Transcript-BSc-2023.pdf.
Keep originals safe
Universities and visa authorities may ask to see originals later. Store them securely.
